Harris

Big Ballies Filled With Money — But No Schools, No Hospitals, No Development

Dear Editor

It has become increasingly clear to many of us that during his time in office, Timothy Harris was far more focused on enriching himself than building the country he was elected to serve. And today, the same man who delivered no meaningful development for seven years is now aggressively attacking the Special Sustainability Zone — a forward-looking initiative he neither understands nor has taken the time to research. Instead of welcoming a policy designed to bring investment, jobs and long-term infrastructure to our nation, he is working overtime to discredit it, even though his administration never produced a single comparable development strategy.

While our people waited for development, opportunity and national progress, what we witnessed instead was a leader who accumulated personal gain while leaving no meaningful legacy for the nation, no new schools, no hospitals, no infrastructure, and no real investments that improved daily life for our citizens.

For seven years, Harris occupied the seat of power without exercising the responsibility that comes with it. The record is undeniable: he did not build, he did not modernise, and he did not create opportunities for our people. Instead of strengthening the economy, he strengthened his own financial position. Instead of public improvement, the country received political theatre packaged as governance.

When a leader prioritises personal gain over nation-building, the cost is carried by the people — in lost time, stalled development and broken trust. What our country needed was investment and service; what it received was self-interest operating under the disguise of leadership

Now that he is no longer in office, the country is witnessing a new and deeply troubling development: the very money he accumulated during his time in power is now being used to fund attacks against the SKNLP. Instead of contributing to national progress, he is investing those resources into misinformation, political disruption and character assassination. The same funds that should have benefited the people are now being weaponised to mislead them.

Rather than accepting responsibility for his failures, Timothy Harris is using his financial gains to undermine Dr Drew and his administration that is actually delivering projects, driving reform and working to move the country forward. It is a bitter irony that the wealth extracted from the state during his tenure is now being recycled into negative campaigning against the state itself.

This is not politics — it is sabotage. It is an attempt to distort public opinion by financing hostility against the same progress he refused to deliver when he had power. While the current administration is focused on development, healthcare infrastructure, housing initiatives and economic change, Harris is focused on tearing down rather than building up.

Our country did not remain stagnant by coincidence — it remained stagnant because its leadership at the time placed personal ambition above national duty. Today, we are seeing the consequences of that greed twice: first in the absence of development under his tenure, and now in the financial attempts to obstruct development from the outside.

As citizens, we must not be misled by noise funded from the shadows of past misuse. Leadership must be judged by delivery, not by how loudly one attacks those who are delivering. St. Kitts and Nevis cannot afford to repeat the cycle of self-enrichment disguised as service.
